*Except days off in the Williamsville Central Schools (including snow-days) and the Monday after camping trips (A junior leader meeting takes place instead.)
Throughout the year, Troop 85 visits many places on monthly campouts that often provide the best experiences in the Scouting program. In order for everyone to learn and benefit, Scouts shop and organize their own gear for their camping excursions. On the Thursday before a camping trip, the designated shopper and quartermaster arrive at the church at 7:15 to perform their tasks. The shopper goes to Wegmans to purchase the menu that boys decided on. The quartermaster organizes and cleans all of the equipment that will be needed on the campout. Unlike most troops, the Scouts prepare their meals, not the chaperones. The adults are in their own separate patrol that eats together; which, as is expected with adults, sometimes eats somewhat better looking meals. Money for the camping trip is due the Friday that we leave in the parking lot to Mr. Hager. There are no exceptions.
If you are interested in joining, please visit the Contact Us page to get the proper contact information. All are welcome to attend our meetings and see what we are all about. You will find that Troop 85 offers the best and a unique Scouting experience in the entire Greater Niagara Frontier Council. We would love to meet you at one of our meetings!
The nature of a boy-led troop requires manageable numbers of new members. Youth wishing to join our fantastic troop can discuss with our fantastic Scoutmaster if room is available. The only requirements for membership are the basic ones setup by the Boy Scouts of America. Being a member of the congregation or a student in Williamsville are not requirements. We offer a non-denominational program and our Scouts attend both public and private schools.
Attendance: At least 50% attendance is required from all scouts with 70% for leaders and 90% for the senior patrol leader and the assistant senior patrol leaders. We do understand things out of our control come up and we will deal with that on an individual basis.
Behavior: Scouts are expected to live by the Scout Law and set examples for other troops and younger Scouts. Actions or behaviors that are “un-Scoutlike” will affect the whole group and will not be tolerated. If continuous bad behavior becomes a problem, it will be dealt with.
Communication: Notifications will be sent out through e-mail and on the website so please check your e-mail and the website.
Promptness: We expect you to be on time. Here is a quote to keep in mind: “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is unacceptable.” We do not wait for you to arrive for meetings or camping trips regardless of your rank or position. Be respectful. Be on time.
Shopping: The patrols are required to have one member go shopping and one member quartermaster for each campout. The patrols will decide who shops and quartermasters. If a patrol fails to send a shopper on the Thursday before a campout, the Scoutmaster reserves the right to be creative in making meal choices for that patrol. If no one quartermasters for the patrol, you will have to wait to use another patrol’s utensils and clean them. Please send shoppers and quartermasters.
